German Preschool 2009/2010 |
Philosophy
The GVS German Preschool is a place where children are given the opportunity to learn and grow. Preschool activities address the needs of the total child. We believe that social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growths are interrelated and are equally crucial. The preschool is designed to encourage and guide children in the development of self-direction, individual responsibility, and intellectual growth. |
| We believe that children can reach their fullest potential if they develop a positive self-image. To emphasize this, our preschool offers an environment in which they can learn to choose their activities, cooperate, share and form varied friendships. |
| Many Preschools seem to emphasize the intellectual and academic growth of the child but neglects social-emotional and motor development. At this age, it is more important that children learn basic social and practical skills such as making friends, solving problems, asserting themselves to a given cause, develop dependability and independence and even start riding bikes. Academic qualities such as reciting the ABC’s should not be primary. |

Preschool Program/ Language
TThe Preschool is a complete German immersed program suitable for children from 2.8 and above. Children absorb German language and culture naturally through their customary school activities. Instruction is predominantly in German, but additional explanations and assistance is provided to those with no prior German education. As the year progresses, your child will need less explanations in English. Young children have great ability to absorb a language through immersion and day-to-day play.
Why German?
Attending our German Preschool for the whole school-year is an excellent way to allow non-German speakers the opportunity to achieve enough fluency to enter Kindergarten. Because of the strong English speaking environment - and exposure to an Arabic-speaking environment, we have found that German speaking children who develop little English or Arabic have no difficulty acquiring them later on. Therefore, we’ve chosen German to better support our Vision:
