Social development
All pupils in KG will be placed in situations where they will be
helped to develop socially.
In kindergarten children learn to form relationships, sort out
difficulties and fit in as part of a community, they begin to
understand the need for rules to help people live together.
They will also:
- go on outings and eat and drink together learning the
appropriate behavior for these occasions
- use sand and water to progress from solitary play to
joining with others
- dress up for role-play and act out stories and songs
- prepare food together in cooking to try new tastes
- use construction toys and playdough experiences to
share resources in a fair and friendly way
- use stories, pictures and jigsaw to understand how
others live
- learn to take turns and cope with winning and losing in
physical games and playtime.

making relationships.
Emotional development
Children who are upset are not in the best state for learning. Play
which allows them to explore and re- create feelings will help them
cope with their emotions.
- painting and drawing express feelings and experiences,
which are important to them
- home corner play and dressing –up give acting –out
experience of relationships
- dry sand and water – children derive comfort from handling
these soothing natural materials
- playdough, jig- saws and wet sand allow children to work out
aggressive emotions in a safe and acceptable way by
destroying and recreating
- outdoor play allows children to gain self- confidence from
physical challenges
- stories can help children to recognize and name their
emotions and experiences.
Moral experiences
Children will reach conclusions on acceptable behaviour
from the example teachers set and the way they act. The
whole atmosphere of the kindergarten will influence them
in:
- caring for each other
- welcoming newcomers
- comforting others in distress
- celebrating birthdays and special days
In addition to that, children are introduced to morals and
values through religion, where they are taught some
religious stories.
Development of independence
Independence comes with:
- learning to tidy up both themselves and their
classroom
- a sense of achievement of a task done independently
and completed satisfactorily
- choosing activities they want to do allows children to
develop independence and responsibility for their
actions
- helping teacher to set tables, get out equipment,
tidy -up, wipe table, etc
- self- management, such as dealing with clothing,
asking for help when necessary, putting things away
after use
- labeling resources clearly and making them
accessible
- self registration
