XI. PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons are strictly forbidden.
Nevertheless, sometimes you are asked to
get an external help just in German language.
In such cases, the tutor should only enrich
child's vocabulary and his or her language
skills using external materials other than the
school's.

XII. GIFTS

Material gifts to teaching staff are not
allowed at any time.
XIII.
BIRTHDAYS

  • Birthdays are only to be celebrated with
cakes only at school at the second break
    time. Parents should provide cakes,
plates, forks and candles. Parents may
attend but only for a certain length of
time approximately 15 minutes.  It is
obligatory to stick to the school's policy
about healthy food (refer to Food section
    p. 3)
  • Birthday invitations to be distributed
should be written and named by the
    parents. These invitations will be
distributed only if it is for the whole
    class.  Otherwise, parents should
    distribute them.
XIV. LOST PROPERTY

  • All items of clothing or belongings brought into school should
be labeled. The school cannot accept responsibility for
valuable items lost by children or unlabelled items
  • Any losses should be reported immediately to the
    administration
  • Lost property will normally be displayed on a notice board
until a parents’ meeting. Unclaimed property will be donated
to charity at the end of the school year.

XV. TRANSPORTATION
As space availability is an issue, please note that:
  • It will not be possible for students to travel with their
friends or relatives on a temporary basis (even if only once)
by means of a school bus (students who are already registered
for school transportation bus are no exception). If there is
any change from the current address to any other, school has
to be informed 3 days in advance. School will inform you if
    such change is possible.
  • School must be notified of all transportation changes to/from
school (whether by car or bus) in writing. Please ask your child
to hand the note to his/her class teacher first thing in the
    morning.
  • If there is an emergency and changes occur during the day,
please make sure to call before 1:00 p.m. Any changes after that
will probably be impossible to make.

  • As GVS prides itself on a very high standard of
discipline within the school, with respectful, polite and
courteous pupils. We are also committed to ensuring
    the safety of all children.
  • Below is a list of bus safety rules that are to be followed
    by all students;
  • Students must be punctual on their bus time.  The bus
will not wait for your child in the morning.  In the
afternoon, the person responsible for picking the child
must show the child's bus I.D. and if s/he were not on
time, the child will be returned to the administration
office at 80 Makrem Ebeid St., (for Nasr City and
Heliopolis children) and at 52 Mohie El Din Abu El Ezz,
(for Mohandessin children). S/he will be waiting for
his/her parents to pick him/her up. To save time during
the bus tour, bus matrons are strictly instructed not
to get off the bus to deliver children, so picking up
children is supposed to be at the bus door.
  • Students must remain seated at all times.
  • There is to be no loud noise on the bus.
  • Students must keep all parts of the body inside the bus
    window.
  • Eating and drinking other than water is not allowed on the
    bus.
  • Students must follow bus matron's instructions at all
    times.
  • Talk in a quiet voice on the bus.  Never use bad language
  • Never throw or put anything out of the window.

Students are allowed to use their game boys, MP3,  or
walkmans on the bus only and not in school.  In that case,
the school is not responsible of any damage or loss of
these items. It is advised not to allow your children to
exchange his or her electronic items and their
accessories with his or her peers as the school will not
be involved in any such problems.
• Parents have a problem with an incident, which may
have occurred on the bus; they must contact the school
and report the problem to the school administration.
They are not allowed to discuss this matter with the
matron nor the bus driver.
Consequences for breaking bus rules

  • Should any of the above rules be broken, a warning
letter will be sent home if the child continues
breaking the bus rules.  After three warning letter
the school will take disciplinary action which will
result in the child staying after school until parents
pick him/her up at 5.00 p.m.  In more serious being
suspended from the school bus for a period of time,
depending on the nature of the offense.  If the child
continues misbehaving on the bus, the headmistress
has the right to exclude children from school for a
    period of time.
  • As for departure from school, children should head
directly to their buses at the end of the school day.
Any child will deliberately be late for the bus will be
warned twice, then parents will be notified. The next
step, s/he will stay in school until his/her parents pick
    him/her up from school.
XVI. Language

  • In school the preferred language is English. Every
effort is made to encourage the pupils to speak in
English. It is strongly recommended to set a time
at home (like lunchtime, sleeping time …) for
conversing in English with your child.  This is very
important, as your child will learn that you
appreciate his/her effort to converse in English.
At the same time, it will strengthen school's
stress on how important it is to practice talking in
    English.
  • Several parents have made comments about the
use of unsuitable words (bad words) being used by
some pupils in Arabic. GVS does not approve of such
language and is certainly not taught at the school.
We ask your cooperation in impressing upon the
children the need for suitable polite language at all
    time.
  • Using bad language in school will not be tolerated,
and will be dealt with as serious misbehavior.
XVII. Pocket money

For those of you whose children bring money in to buy
items from the school canteen, the amount of money should
not be more than L.E 10, as it should be more than enough
to buy snacks at both break times.
XVIII. Medical Emergencies
If during the school day a serious accident occurs, these
are the steps which will be taken:
  • The nurse will assess the seriousness of the situation
and proceed accordingly. Our qualified nurse will take
care of minor injuries. In such case, a letter
describing the injury and the action taken will be sent
    home with the child.
  • In case of child's illness (vomiting, fever,…);
  • the school will inform the parents to decide if they
need to pick the child up.
  • A child who needs hospital attention;
  • The school will call the parents to choose whether
  • To pick the child up from the school or at a meeting
    point
  • or to be accompanied by the school appropriate
representative to the hospital where further
    treatment will be provided.
  • The moment the child arrives to the hospital, it
becomes the hospital and parents' responsibility to
    give any appropriate treatment.
XVIV. Trips
  • Field trips are part of students' Topic work in class.  Such trips
will provide an excellent opportunity for the children to gain a
greater understanding and insight into the work they have been
studying in class which is regarded by us as an essential part of
    their learning.
  • It is a strict requirement that exemplary behavior by student
has to be displayed. This requirement includes traveling on the
bus. Any student ruining the school image , through poor conduct,
will not be allowed to participate in future field trips until
further notice .In such case, the administrative supervisor and
    Headmistress must be informed.

XVV. End-Of-Year Performance
  • The End-Of-Year production is an important event on our school
calendar as it is a major plus to the learning process.  The
benefit experience and the acquired skills are equally the same
since acting on stage in front of audience in itself is a task that
strengthens speaking and listening skills, builds on confidence and
self-esteem.  It also teaches the children the importance of team
work spirit.  More importantly, it is a learning experience that
awards them with a sense of achievement and success.
  • A student who has a sibling performing his/her play, s/he is not
allowed to leave classes and watch that play or leave after
his/her sibling's play with their parents.
  • It is recommended that students would not be absent to watch
    their siblings' performance.
